How We Started
Here at Moonlight Kennels, we are deeply committed to the care and well-being of our animals, including our cherished shepherds. Situated on a 10-acre ranch right in the heart of Aurora, Colorado, we are home to a variety of animals, including horses, our 2 rescue goats, chickens, and, of course, our dogs. We run a small-scale horse rescue and breed AQHA registered Quarter Horses, typically having 1-2 foals annually. I have four children, all of whom help care for our mini zoo. They all ride their horses, competing in various western disciplines! Our shepherds absolutely love the lifestyle, they get to engage in activities which they were bred to do, and have lots of land to roam around on. They get along so well with all of our livestock, and live the life every canine thrives in.
As a family, we have been breeding AKC Mastiffs, and are ranked the #1 show kennel in the US. With over 30 years of experience, my kids wanted a new breed, as the Mastiffs aren't as active and athletic as they'd like. We began searching for a different kind of dog, and came across the White Swiss Shepherd. It was love at first sight, so we decided to welcome the breed into our lives back in 2020. As someone who is very particular when it comes to conformation and quality, I decided to import puppies from some of the best show kennels in both Europe and Denmark. A bit unsure of how the temperament of the breed was, we learned just how amazing they are. We are a very active family, who enjoy hiking, fishing, boating, and traveling, we wanted dogs that could enjoy all of those things while also being laid-back couch potatoes. They checked off everything on our list, once you own one you'll never want anything else!​
