Puppy Care/Training

PLEASE READ HIGHLIGHTS IN THE FOLLOWING
Food Transitioning:
We will send a bag of the food he / she is currently on to slowly transition to your choice of food. When you get your puppy, start by mixing 80% of our food with 20% of yours, everyday increase your food by 20%, by the third day it should be 50/50. This ensures your pup doesn't get an upset stomach. We send a little packet with more detailed/clear directions!

Acclimation:
When you first bring your puppy home, he / she will either be super excited without a care in the world, or skeptical and nervous. To help them get used to the new environment, provide lots of entertainment to keep them occupied. We will send a small blanket with the mom's scent, which eases the stress of the change.

Introduction to other pets:
Depending on the other animals in your house, it's always a good idea to be cautious when bringing a new puppy home. The best way to go about this is by keeping your pup in a crate while allowing your other dogs/cats to smell and see him / her, this way they can get familiar with each other with limited access.

House Breaking:
While our puppies know the basics, by using a box full of paper, further training is needed. To do this, we highly recommend using treats, and turn your baby voices on! Take him / her outside constantly (after waking up, playing, eating/drinking, etc), and when they use it out there reward with praise and treats! Eventually they will follow a routine, and wait to go outside.

Leash Training:
When starting training your puppy to walk on a leash, remember this, keep sessions short and POSITIVE. First thing to do is get them familiar with the collar and leash, which we already do with them. Then increase by having them walk with you by luring with treats and voice commands, as they progress you can increase difficulty by changing directions, always rewarding desired behaviors.

Socialization:
While we do LOTS of socialization practices with our puppies, there's only so much we can do with them before they hit 8 weeks old, so here are some ways to keep your puppy progressing in that area.

- Walks, until your puppy has ALL of their vaccinations, you want to wait before you take them on ANY public sidewalks/areas, that includes stores, parks, and even in the front of your house. But once they are fully vaccinated, taking them in public spaces and functions will help them get used to people they don't know and new environments!

- Introduce them to new things, some things include loud/strange noises, weird surfaces, and different kinds of animals. This will help boost their confidence so they can face anything without being nervous.

- Controlled dog interactions, arrange playdates with other well socialized (and vaccinated) puppies so your can play and learn from/with them!
